Thanks Funke - for 14 years of keeping us balanced!

Posted by on 17 July 2012 | 1 Comments

Funke Fatunla has been with Equinox for 14 years - she leaves us at the end of this week for a new role with Family Action. But before she heads off, we wanted to celebrate her contribution to Equinox as a small thank you for the great work she's done here.

And, we couldn't miss the opportunity to get a few top tips on managing our money!

When did you start with Equinox, Funke?

"I joined Equinox as a Finance Officer in April 1998. Then a chance came in 2001 to apply for the role of Finance Manager, I went for it and I got the job!"

Why Finance?

"I remember as a little girl saying to my father if I don't study accounting in college, I don't want to do anything. I love working with figures and making everything add up. Even if it's just one single penny I have to find, I don't stop until I find it. You can't fault me on my figures - and I know that Equinox have really valued that."

What's a typical day like?

"No two days are the same. Many people think Finance is a boring role but I get to speak to staff, suppliers and service users. It's all about solving problems quickly for people. I've also had opportunities at Equinox to help service users directly - I remember one day helping a service user in crisis to find a service that could help them.

Celebrating our people at Equinox

Funke's great skills with money has meant she's been able to travel across America in her time - one trip took her from Atlanta to Mississippi to Dallas to Houston.

So help us Funke! What are your top tips for managing your money?

1) Don't be afraid!

"A lot of people get scared when they hear the word 'budget' or 'finances'. But there's nothing to be scared of once you put pen to paper, break it down."

2) Keep it simple

"It's really as simple as looking at your day to day expenses. Then looking at how much money you have coming in. Then making the two match up!"

3) Don't spend what you don't have

"For example, if your friend owes you some money, don't count it until you have it in your hand."

4) Be creative

"I always do my Morrisons shopping at 10pm. Such great bargains!"

Everyone at Equinox wishes Funke well in her new role - we wish this lovely lady with a big smile a great new adventure in her career.
