A big thank you to two of Equinox's funders, who are supporting Equinox Brighton to tackle alcohol dependence, street drinking and homelessness.
Firstly, the Equinox Brighton Alcohol Outreach Service has been awarded additional funding from Brighton Council to go towards another full time post for the team in financial year 2013-14.  The service works with street drinkers in Brighton and Hove, identifying them through daily outreach work then working with people to reduce alcohol consumption and street drinking presence, access treatment, maintain tenancies and promote recovery in all areas of their life.
Equinox Brighton Services Manager Jesse Wilde said: “The new post will be for another much-needed outreach worker, with an emphasis on organising periodic counts of street drinkers, tracking work done and monitoring outcomes. This will allow Equinox Brighton to map and research not just street drinkers but the wider street community. This is a very exciting development for the work we are doing in Brighton and Hove to tackle alcohol dependence and homelessness.”
Secondly, work has begun on the refurbishments at Equinox Brighton Stanley Rd supported accommodation following a £10,000 grant from CRASH, the construction industry charity. The Equinox Brighton house provides a safe and peaceful space for 5 men with a history of homelessness and alcohol dependence. With support from the on-site Equinox housing worker, residents work towards sustainable recovery and independent living. Watch this space for more about the refurbishments.
