Equinox Brighton has been appointed as the provider of a new Brighton service targeting people with multiple and complex needs, following a competitive bidding process.

The Equinox Brighton Multiple and Complex Needs Team is funded by the Big Lottery. The lead agency for the South East Regional Partnership is Brighton Housing Trust, who will oversee three initiatives in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings.

The new Equinox team consists of 4 posts: an Area Lead Coordinator; 1 Systems & Service Review Officer and 2 specialist posts: a ‘Dual Diagnosis Specialist Worker’ and a ‘Women With Complex Needs Specialist Worker’. Sussex Partnership Trust have agreed to second two clinical staff into the service.

Equinox Brighton service manager, Jesse Wilde, said: “Equinox exists for vulnerable and forgotten people, who often fall through society’s safety net. This is why we are thrilled to be appointed by Brighton Housing Trust and funded by Big Lottery to work with these marginalised groups in Brighton and Hove.

“The Equinox Brighton team will work directly with service users, providing assertive and personalised interventions to women with complex needs and people with a dual diagnosis. The team will also review and redesign systems to leave a lasting and sustainable legacy, to better meet the needs of this client group.”

Contributing to the bid, Equinox service user and worker, Kate and Heather, are pictured here celebrating the success of the Equinox bid.

A multiagency approach to identifying the caseload will be adopted, identifying people most in need of the new Equinox Brighton service. The team will assertively outreach to service users, working with them intensively towards treatment, recovery and positive outcomes.

Background to the Big Lottery Fulfilling lives Fund

The Big Lottery is supporting people with complex needs in 12 areas of England, with a national investment of £112m.

The overall aims of the Big Lottery "Fulfilling Lives" fund are:

  • People with multiple and complex needs are able to better manage their lives through access to person centered and coordinated services.
  • Services are more tailored and better connected and will empower users to take full part in effective service design and delivery.
  • Shared learning and the improved measurement of outcomes for people with multiple and complex needs will demonstrate the impact of service models to key stakeholders. A strong action learning element will feature, to demonstrate the impact of this approach and influence practice and ‘system’ design.
