Bright sunshine, barbecue food, cold drinks, art, music, rabbits, snakes, spiders, lizards and a meerkat!

There was something for everyone at the launch party of the Lewisham Mental Health Connection.

On Tuesday 24th June, over 150 people including Lewisham mental health providers, service users and family members, came together for a day of celebration and commitment to further collaboration.

Councillor Chris Best, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Older People, attended the launch. She said: “I welcome the Lewisham Mental Health Connection. It’s inspiring to see so much on offer here today for people who experience mental ill health. There are many great things to do in Lewisham – leisure activities and free film screenings, for example. No-one in Lewisham needs to feel isolated at home.”

The Hexagon Housing team worked night and day to feed guests with meat and vegetarian burgers, sausages and kebabs, chicken, noodles, cous cous, potato salad, pasta salad, green salad, chocolate cake, cheesecake and fruit salad - and much more besides!

Chief Executive of Equinox Care, Bill Puddicombe, said: “The spirit of Woodstock has landed in Lewisham today – great weather, great food, great company. It’s brilliant to be here. This is all about people getting together, to find better ways of working together. Thanks to all involved in the Lewisham Mental Health Connection.”

Nick*, an Equinox Lewisham service user, said: “It’s been good to get out in the sunshine and meet new people.”

Colin*, a Bromley & Lewisham MIND service user, said: “It’s a nice oasis here – relaxing and sociable.”

Animal Days Out brought with them a range of animals and insects for guests to interact with, including: a meerkat, a tarantula, snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, a chameleon, a ferret, rats and rabbits.

Art therapists ran an art table at the launch party. Drawings will be incorporated into the new Lewisham Mental Health Connection logo - being designed this summer.
